Important Information about Licensing and Accreditation:
Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp is licensed by Virginia State Department of Social Services. A regular license is issued when the program substantially meets standards for licensure. The Commonwealth of Virginia helps assure parents that child day care programs that assume the responsibility for the supervision, protection, and well being of a child for any part of a 24-hour day are safe.
Title 63.1, chapter 10 of the Code of Virginia gives the Department of Social Services authority to license these programs. While there are some legislative exemptions to licensure, licensed programs include child day centers, family day homes, child day center systems, and family day systems. The state may voluntarily register family day homes not required to be licensed.
Standards for licensed child day centers address certain health precautions, adequate play space, ratio of children to staff members, equipment, program, and record keeping. Criminal record checks and specific qualifications for staff and volunteers working directly with children are also required. Standards require the facility to meet applicable fire, health, and building codes. Compliance with standards is determined by announced and unannounced visits to the program by licensing staff within the Department of Social Services. In addition, parents or other individuals may register a complaint about a program, which will be investigated if it violates a standard.
Our facility was inspected for asbestos-containing materials (ACM) on April 3, 1999 in accordance with licensing requirements. Although ACM were identified, no significant hazard areas were identified. A management plan has been written for our assistance in maintaining these ACM in the current condition. Please ask if you would like to see a copy of this inspection report and management plan. If you would like additional information about the licensing of child day programs, or would like to register a complaint, please contact the Fairfax Licensing Office, 3959 Fender Drive, Suite 320, Fairfax, VA, 22030 or phone 703-934-1505.
The Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp is an accredited summer program with the American Camp Association (ACA). The ACA helps summer programs maintain the highest standards and best practices when it comes to providing meaningful and successful camp experiences to all children. The ACA accreditation, much like the Social Services Licensing, inspects all aspects of a summer program to ensure they are in line with the ACA’s current guidelines. This process is done once every three years. The Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp is proud to be an ACA accredited camp.
