Upper Division - Ages 9-12
Registration for the 2018 Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp is now open! You can register here: https://burgundyfarmsummerdaycamp.campbrainregistration.com
Burgundy’s Upper Division is designed for our oldest campers who have identified interests, taken up hobbies, and are ready to have influence over how they spend their camp day. The Upper Division has the widest variety of all our divisions, and allows the camper to truly build a unique camp experience during their time at Burgundy.
Campers will have a full day of activity by selecting either (1) both a morning and an afternoon program from our half-day options or (2) a full-day, two-week camp program. Campers must choose both a morning and afternoon program OR a full-day program; we do not offer half-day registration.
**Please note, our full-day, two-week options are available during weeks 3 AND 4, 5 AND 6, 7 AND 8.
Whatever programs they select, Upper Division campers take on more responsibility during the camp day, give input into the day-to-day activities of their camp, and serve as role models for our younger campers. Upper Division campers are integral in creating the type of inclusive, supportive community we strive for at Burgundy, as this is often created through them leading by example.
All campers swim daily in the Upper Division in Burgundy’s own outdoor saltwater pool. Daily swim time includes swim instruction Monday through Thursday with a free swim session on Friday. Those who choose a full-day program have a designated swim time that remains constant during the session. Those who choose to select from our morning and afternoon offerings will swim with their morning program.

Each camper receives a T-shirt and a tournament-style chess set. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, and playing lots of games against other students. Campers will take breaks for snacks, lunch and fresh air. Check out their website at www.skenrichment.com.
NOVA Fencing Club (Weeks 3, 6, and 7) **Brand new Camp for 2018**
En Garde! Ready? Fence! Nova Fencing Camps are a great introduction to the Olympic sport of fencing, which is taught through fun drills and exciting games. Campers will learn basic footwork and blade work skills from experienced coaches who have developed both national and international competitors, including several current Junior Olympians.
All of our camps will teach and refine the fundamentals of fencing including hand and footwork, drills, and bouting. Camps end with a team tournament using electrical equipment. Why choose our fencing camp? Because fencing is fun! Campers will love playing fun games, getting fit, and making lasting friendships.
Our camps are for children who have no experience with fencing through intermediate level fencers. Fencers will be grouped according to their ability. Equipment and uniforms are provided, including protective masks, jackets, chest protectors, and gloves.
Each camp is taught by instructors under the direction of Head Coach Greg Kaidanov. All of our coaches are First Aid/CPR/AED and USOC Safe Sport certified. Camps can be repeated, since every bout brings a new experience.
ARTrageous ARTventures with Pottery Playground (Weeks 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8)
Add SIZZLE to your summer with ARTrageous ARTventures at Burgundy Farm Summer Day Camp! Our Art camp is as Art-intensive as you’ll find anywhere in Northern Virginia. Come and take a peek…Val, Kate, and their staff are back and ready to take you and your friends to colorful destinations reserved only for those wanting to explore their creative sides! So, Fire Up your imaginations and prepare to experience a kaleidoscope of Art styles and projects from various cultures and countries.
Campers will explore many Art forms each week and learn FUNtastic techniques that will bring them to life. In addition to the Fired Arts of pottery painting, glass fusion and clay (hand building a variety of pieces), we will explore a wide range of Art mediums, such as the ancient Art of mosaics, canvas painting, drawing, watercolor, collage, oil pastels and candle making! For added fun, we’ve packed LOTS of funky tools like straws, liquid soap, shaving cream, and fuzzy yarn in our creative arsenal. Everything is BRIGHT, COLORFUL and designed for FUN!
Please Note: Since our Artventures are week-long sessions, Fired Arts projects won’t be ready for pick up until 10-14 days after we complete them. Clay projects must dry several days before being fired in the kiln. Due to the extra fire time, there will be no Fired Arts projects during the last week (Week 8) of camp. We will, however, include some super fun projects with air-dry clay! Pick up of your projects is very easy! All Fired Arts projects (ceramic, glass, and clay) will be kept securely in the Camp Office until your parent can swing by to collect them. Val will send a reminder note home with you at weeks’ end, letting your parents know when your masterpiece(s) will be ready for you to admire.
While learning about different Art styles is important, it’s YOUR creative interpretation of these styles we value most. We view Art as a process, not a product, and expect you to put your artistic thumbprint on the various Art movements we cover. You will leave camp with more than just an appreciation of Art; you will learn how to overcome obstacles, focus your attention through guided exercises, and use your creative muscle. You’ll likely learn a few silly dances, too, because we love to turn up the tunes and boogie in-between our assignments.New projects are tackled daily and week-to- week, with no activity being duplicated. That means you can come as often as you like while you create the coolest Art gallery in the neighborhood! Projects are always FUN and no prior experience in any of the Art forms is required. All products and tools used are non-toxic and safe for the smallest hands. Welcome Aboard our creative train! We look forward to seeing you!
